let me begin this entry with a question. Is smoking allowed in air-conditioned areas or hotels. I am beginning to find that people are becoming more and more inconsiderate. Worst, cannot even judge by the suits they wear. A property fair, salesmen sitting down, and a cigarette happily lying in the ash tray burning away and the horrible smell spreading throughout the whole area.And the result, nothing was done. I wonder why even smoking is allowed in the hotels. So what if there's a smoking zone for smokers. I mean, even if the smokers and non-smokers are separated, the non-smokers may not be spared from the torture of passive smoking. So what if the service of the hotel is good. So what of the hotel is rated a 4 or 5 star. I believe what matters is how the hotel accomodate to the majority of the people who may patronise the hotel be it a local or a tourist. Smoking, i feel, must be banned in air-conditioned areas. its totally different from the open air where the smoke can diffuse into the wide, open space. But in an air-conditioned area. I don't think so. People want to be a place where there is clean air and not having the problem of having to play the role of a passive smoker. But here, in a hotel, there are ashtrays around which gives a potential smoker the idea of smoking in a hotel and polluting the cool and supposedly fresh air. If Singapore really wants to be a smoke-free country, I think they not only have to implement the 'No Smoking' law in public but also in hotels. Never mind if we lose some tourists. What matters is the health of the people. Or do you rate money above our health?
